I had something like this, but it was for individual members, an not a complete chat like I would like, I was going to replace the general chat on the homepage, with a chat on all pages, like Facebook chat, but like Facebook it was per member.

Well thats what I was getting at, it would basically serve as an alternative to the PM system, it would be like switching from email to IM during the Dial up era.
