*This requires you having a Droid X and still having a 1 year warranty on it. Insurance is NOT going to give you one for free. You would have to pay a deductible.
So you have a Droid X and for some reason you want a new one maybe you dropped it and you have a bunch of scratches or dents.
First you MUST have a warranty on your device. Insurance is NOT going to give you a phone for free!
Next you will need to make sure your device is back to stock, as you are going to short circuit your device and it will still be bootable. You will just have blocked your battery from being charged from your phone, so make sure it is charged before you continue. If you have no way to get a new battery, this means will be a temporary way to turn on your phone just long enough to restore it to stock via RSD, and be able to send it back to Verizon.
Now that your device is stock, find an old USB cable.
From there you are going to strip it. You need the positive (red) and the negative (black).
The Droid X uses 3.7v, and a USB cable is 5v. Just enough to trip the circuit to make the phone no longer recognize any batteries, including Motorola.
Take your battery out of you phone and connect the positive wire to the positive terminal (right) and the negative wire to the negative terminal (left). Now plug up the USB cable and power on the phone remembering to leave the battery out. The battery may or may not be covered by the warranty. You want a broken phone, not a battery blown up in your face. After your phone turns on do anything you may need to do like backup your phone or restoring your phone to factory settings.
When finished, simply unplug everything. Put your battery back in, and boot your phone. Your phone should have a ? where the battery meter is. Take it back to Verizon and redeem your new prize.
